Alice Rebecca Lafler-Austern was born on December 18, 2005. She's almost three now!
Alice is an active and verbal little girl. She loves books, climbing, and typical toddler foods like raw onion, broccoli, pâté, and leaves of fresh basil. She has made several attempts to hatch a clutch of Alice-bird eggs in a nest on the living room couch, but, like Jemima Puddleduck, she has never been a good sitter. Alice is now going to “junior preschool” three days a week and comes home with all sorts of lurid gossip about her classmates. Recent accomplishments include leaving messages on her grandparents' answering machines, counting to 11 (more or less), and stuffing various toys down a drainpipe. She continues her long-standing fascination with fluid dynamics and conducts experiments whenever the opportunity arises.
These days Alice is—well, not always Alice. Sometimes she tells us that she's Peter Rabbit, sometimes she's a little girl hummingbird, sometimes she's Dora, sometimes she's Pooh Bear, sometimes Eloise... She's very insistent on it, and the logic is very thorough! When she's a ladybug she eats red aphids instead of raspberries; when she's Peter Rabbit she asks us for “brown chamomile tea” instead of chocolate milk.
Some of Alice's recent linguistic developments and witticisms are chronicled here.
